Memory foam is the fastest growing alternative to innerspring mattresses. There are are many health benefits to a pressure relieving mattress, that is why so many medical facilities, chiropractors, doctors, and yes, even NASA, are using and recommending Memory foam.

While price may be the determining factor, here are some facts about memory foam. You must keep in mind however that not all memory foam is created equal.

There are commonly about five different types of memory foam and three different densities, rated in 4lb, 5lb, and 6lb. Each has its own benefits and applications for a truly unique feel, life expectancy, and comfort level. As a general rule however, the greater the weight, the greater the foam density, durability, and also firmness ratings.

Sensus®, Tempur Pedic®, and DomFoam® are widely recognized as the highest quality memory foams ("viscoelastic" memory foams) and vary only in terms of price. Under the microscope, these three "viscoelastic" memory foams are all very similar in terms of molecular construction. eMattress utilizes only Sensus and DomFoam for the memory foam layer. You must be cautioned against inferior foam blends offered by some competitors. This could be part of the reason emattress.com has a return rate of less than 2% on our mattresses while the industry average is about 11%.

The higher the density of the foam, the firmer the feel, and the longer it will last. That doesn't mean a 4lb isn't as good, but the truth is it will be more likely to develop a body impression over time. If you like a softer feel don't let this discourage you from getting the density you would be most comfortable on, lets face it; no mattress will last forever.

When you have made a decision about the density and comfort level that best suits you, the next step is to make sure you get the best quality foam and customer service for the price. There are many factors to consider in regard to warranty and customer support issues.

Trial periods, return policies, and shipping costs are all factors that should be considered very closely when selecting a memory foam. Be sure to check around and do your homework as your mattress is one of the most important decisions you will make; you'll spend over 1/3 of your life sleeping.
